Are you ready to take on this summer? Golden sands, blue waters, and a world of relaxation is what summer is all about – that, and recommitting to health!
As the sun becomes a part of our inner circle, let’s focus on all the things there are to do in the great outdoors (apart from simply going to incredible places and making the most of this pale blue dot “suspended in a sunbeam”).
So, just as we have new year’s resolutions, why not make some summer promises as well? Let’s start the season of the sun with a focus on health!
Stepping it up!
When you think of walking, what do you imagine: a treadmill or a lush path? Both tend to have a similar effect in different ways. They each improve focus and cast a rejuvenating spell on walkers.
Make the most of the great outdoors with hikes along nature trails, long walks around the neighborhood, strolls in the park, or just a morning jog. As it turns out, stepping it up has more benefits than you can count!
The Happiness Bonus
Sure, walking boosts energy levels, improves cardiovascular health, and all those other big words. But it also does a whole lot more; walking can have a big impact on your mental health, as well!
Improved Memory
Walking allows your brain to relax, helping you absorb the surroundings or simply focus on the activity at hand as your body does all the work. By improving blood circulation (and all that technical stuff), walking can actually have a direct impact on improving your memory, since it helps get rid of that frustrating brain fog we often get!
Better Sleep
Most of us are committed to our desks, hardly getting any activity in between work. Walking is an easy-to-incorporate activity that gives us an excuse to move our bodies and break the monotony of our desk-bound life.
The outcome? Better sleep, directly impacting cognition!
Reducing Stress
Worried about deadlines coming up? Overwhelmed by work? It almost comes as second nature to panic and rush to complete your assignments, but sometimes a quick break can help you take a better look at the big picture. By putting things in perspective and prioritizing tasks, you may actually be able to get work done quicker!
And how can we de-stress and refocus? Walking, of course!
It’s a great reason to take a break, get the blood flowing, and think of things clearly to take effective action!
Why are we talking about this?
As we get lost in work, this blog is a reminder that you need to focus on your health as well! Give your body the love it deserves, and it will return the favor many times over.
And as managers and executives looking to improve productivity, it’s important to not only lead by example, but to also actively encourage your employees to focus on their health and wellness.
When people are focused on more than just their work, they’re actually able to be more productive and creative, making for a more engaging and innovative workspace (and who doesn’t want that?)
Besides, a workplace that cares for its employees is a workplace that people want to stay at!
How to get started
How healthy are your employees? Take a pulse check to ask your employees directly – do they walk, go to the gym, or are there any other activities they engage in?
Set up summer goals, and then provide incentives and active encouragements to get people started!
Create challenges, make it a competition, and more – there are plenty of ways to step it up!
