You see it all the time on social media—an #ad by an influencer you follow, or a sponsored read by a content creator in a video. It may not always be the smoothest way to integrate, but brands will partner to promote each other’s products and services, and this kind of affiliate marketing is just one way to do it. Making an authentic connection to the audience and appealing to their needs can happen with all types of partner marketing, and it can help you reach a broader audience you may not have otherwise had access to.
Along with paid social media ads, partner affiliate marketing can look like hyperlinking to another brand’s services, like this link to a Streamline article that I consulted for this blog, or it might utilize paid digital ads or banners, newsletters, and promotions on each other’s websites. Like they say, two heads are better than one, and the power of your brand’s influence can reach further with the right kind of partnership.
On a much larger scale, we see this all the time in the form of sponsorship marketing.
For example, BMW is the title sponsor of the BMW Championship, a golf tournament that is the final qualifier for the FedEx Cup (oh look, another title sponsor). The PGA Tour’s audience may have some crossover with BMW’s, and together, they create a synergistic experience for players, other corporate sponsors, attendees, and even people watching at home. In the minds of viewers and attendees, the PGA Tour and BMW are now synonymous with the experience, and whether or not they buy a BMW, they may have a new and positive perception of either brand.
But you don’t have to be BMW or FedEx to engage in mutually beneficial kinds of partner marketing. We’ve worked with credit unions, hotels, schools, and other businesses that have agreed to participate in case studies—if you’ve had a good experience with a product or service you’re already using, why not create something that not only helps the business that helped you, but also promotes your business as well?
