Increase Response Rates
Participants who feel comfortable in their confidentiality will be more likely to respond to your surveys. Whether it’s the regular employee pulse surveys or even a market research product feedback survey, anonymity makes it easy for participants to share their thoughts without having to share their personal information. Try anonymous surveys and see responses increase!Capture Better Responses
When participants feel comfortable sharing feedback without fear of repercussions, you’ll notice that they share more honest feedback as well - especially concerns and challenges. This helps you identify real experience gaps that you need to work on, ensuring that you make truly informed decisions that matter.Build Trust
Participants who know that their personal data is protected are more likely to be honest and even trust the brand they’re sharing their perspective with. That’s why it’s important to ensure that your participants aren’t just told about anonymity but assured of it. We do that with a seal at the end of the survey that tells participants that their personal information is protected and will remain so.Get anonymous answers that matter

How can I collect anonymous feedback?
It’s as simple as a click. By checking just one box, you can make any survey anonymous, creating an impenetrable wall between a participant's identity and their response. While you'll know who you invited to participate, you won't know who responded, and what you'll see in your reports is the data alone. This is ideal for employee experience surveys, but can also be helpful in various other fields, from healthcare to teacher and student feedback, market research, and more!
Best practices for anonymous feedback surveys
Anonymous surveys are best used for course evaluations, employee feedback, market research, and more. In each of these cases, it affords participants safety from potential repercussions or privacy of opinions. For example, an employee might feel that sharing critical/negative feedback might result in them losing their job or affect their changes of a promotion.
By offering anonymous surveys, you can make it easier for employees to speak their mind, giving you real data to act on. Similarly, anonymous course evaluations and market research makes it easier for participants to be candid without compromising their personal information.
As a result, when you create an anonymous survey, there are a few things you need to keep in mind:
Don’t ask for identifying information:
It goes without saying that any demographic information ought to be avoided. But sometimes, identifying information can be something like “department name”, “manager” or more. Especially when some departments have only a few members, or some managers only have a few people working under them. If you must include these questions, ensure they aren’t mandatory to allow participants to skip answering should they wish.Ask direct questions:
Avoid double-barreled questions, or even leading questions. This can compromise the quality of the answers you receive, making it difficult to act upon. An example of a double-barreled question as well as a leading question would be, “Did you enjoy the course content and the course activities?"When the answer is a yes or no, the question then arises, what do the participants mean? Are they happy with the course content, the course activities, or both?
The question itself leads participants to assume happiness. Instead, the right way forward would be to split this into two questions:
- Rate your satisfaction with the course content on a scale of 1-10
- Rate your satisfaction with the course activities on a scale of 1-10
Assure anonymity:
We put the seal of anonymity on every anonymous survey, making it easy for participants to see and understand that their information will not be linked back to them. However, if you believe that participants might be feeling uncertain about sharing information without the promise of anonymity, you can always emphasize this. It could be in the beginning of the survey, in the invitation email, or however you’d like to communicate it.
What is an anonymous response?
An anonymous survey response is disconnected from any personal identifying information. When it’s an anonymous response, Sogolytics will not track the respondents’ email address, geo-location, or even their IP address to ensure that their information is completely disconnected with any identifying information. It’s ideally used for employee feedback where employees would be worried about sharing critical information without repercussions, course evaluations where students might not like sharing criticism easily, or even market research where participants don’t want to give away their personal information. In each of these situations, the data is far more critical than personal information. After all, that’s what can help you make informed decisions!
How do I create an anonymous survey, and can I schedule reminders?
Sogolytics makes it easy to create anonymous surveys. All you need to do is check the button. Once you’ve created a survey (or opened a project), go to the design menu bar and select Anonymity - and there you have it! Before you distribute this survey, if you want to nudge participation and increase responses, you can also set up automated reminders. These will automatically be sent out by Sogolytics to your participants after a pre-determined amount of time, all without letting you know who the non-participants are, ensuring that their anonymity is protected.
What is the difference between an Anonymous and a Semi-Anonymous survey?
An anonymous survey completely respects the participants privacy, ensuring that you don’t know which responses are connected to which participant. At the end of the survey, no matter the response rate, you won’t be able to tell who all responded and who all didn’t. However, while you won’t be able to connect an answer to a participant with semi-anonymous survey, you will get a list of non-participants once the survey project has expired.
How do I assure my participants of anonymity?
Anonymous employee feedback can make the difference between taking the right next step, and taking one that makes no difference. Sometimes, even when your survey is anonymous, your participants will be worried about it. They may think that since you’re the one distributing the survey, you would still have access to information that could somehow connect their answers to their names. In order to assuage this concern, we put an anonymous survey seal in the footer of every survey. Upon scrolling over it, participants can even see a better explanation, telling them how it’s anonymous. However, to go the extra mile, you can also assure participants of this personally and share how it remains so.
Can you manage my anonymous survey project?
Sogolytics is a lot more than an anonymous feedback tool. We offer a complete feedback and experience management solution that helps you capture the feedback you need, dive deep into what it entails, and take the right next step based on powerful reporting and analytics. Moreover, we also understand that not everyone has the resources, or the people needed to execute and manage such a project. That’s why we also offer managed services. Let us know your requirements and the information about participants, and we will take care of the rest. We can work with you on survey creation to ensure that no key questions are missed, take care of the follow-ups and report creation, giving you the final report to help you view what the data is saying. Doing so also makes it easier for employees to trust the anonymity offered. After all, when the project is being managed by a third party, it adds an additional layer of assurance.
Is your anonymous feedback tool designed for employee experience?
Sogolytics offers more than an anonymous employee feedback tool. We also have SogoEX, a complete employee feedback and experience management platform that will allow you to identify engagement drivers, keep your finger on the employee pulse, and create a better work environment.
